Fly Ashes are by-products with binding properties typically produced as residue from coal-fired power plants; they are the most common artificial pozzolana. Fly ashes are strongly recommended for constructing marine structures, foundation works in sulfate environments, structures exposed to anti-freezing agents and, more generally, whenever concrete in service will be subjected to chemical attack.

Granulated Blastfurnace Slag, GBS, or iron blast-furnace slag, is a non-metallic product consisting essentially of silicates, aluminosilicates of calcium, and other compounds that are developed in a molten condition simultaneously with the iron in the blast furnace, and then subjected to rapid cooling. GBS is available for Interbulk Trading across Northern Europe, the Mediterranean rim, the Black Sea, India, and the Far East. Natural pozzolanas are usually materials of volcanic origin or sedimentary rocks with suitable chemical and mineralogical composition. Pozzolana is not in itself cementitious but is latently hydraulic: in a finely divided form and in the presence of moisture, it reacts chemically with calcium hydroxide at ordinary temperatures to form compounds

possessing cementitious properties.
Pozzolana-containing cements permit reducing the porosity of concrete and, in the presence of moisture, promote self-healing of cracks. Moreover, both the heat of hydration and the alkali-aggregate reactivity are reduced, while sulfate resistance is increased.
